Technique for retrospective respiratory and cardiac-gated phase contrast flow measurements

چکیده
Background The effect of the respiratory cycle on flow is well documented for cerebrospinal venous return [1] and CSF flow [2]. However, cranial phase contrast (PC) MR flow measurements neglect the influence of respiration. Breath-held acquisitions are possible, but mask physiological flow changes that occur during active respiration. Here we demonstrate a technique to evaluate the effects of active respiration on CSF flow measurements throughout the cardiac cycle for 2 respiration states.

3D respiratory resolved phase contrast imaging of the aorta
Background Respiratory motion compensation is essential for reproducible and robust cardiovascular MRI. Traditionally, breathholds or prospective gating by bellows or navigator signals limit data acquisition to the quiescent phase of respiration [1]. These approaches do not capture any variations of blood flow over the respiratory cycle, yet respiration has been shown to significantly affect fl...
متن کاملNonlinear profile order for 3D hybrid radial acquisition applied to self-gated free-breathing cardiac cine MRI
Background Self-gated free-breathing 3D cardiac cine MRI has been widely introduced, which provides similar image quality and functional measurements as breath-hold technique [1-3]. In self-gated free-breathing cardiac cine MRI, respiratory and cardiac motions are unpredictable during the acquisition especially in retrospective reconstruction. Therefore, nonuniform k-space distribution is a maj...
متن کاملOn the Advantages of Retrospectively Gated Radial Acquisitions for Cine Phase Contrast Flow Imaging
Introduction: High quality dynamic cardiovascular MRI requires synchronization of the data acquisition and cardiac pulsatility. In most clinical applications, this is accomplished with prospective cardiac gating with an ECG or pulse oximeter (PO) signal. This approach results in incomplete coverage of the cardiac cycle (CC) because a rejection window (usually 10% of CC) at the end of the cardia...
متن کاملNavigator gated high temporal resolution tissue phase mapping of myocardial motion.
Data acquisition for phase contrast velocity mapping of myocardial motion is typically based on multiple breath-held 2D measurements with limited acquisition duration and consequently relatively poor temporal resolution. In order to overcome the limitations of breath-hold acquisitions, an improved navigator-guided technique was implemented based on 2 navigator signals within each cardiac cycle ...
متن کاملRetrospectively gated intra-cardiac 4D flow CMR using spiral k-space trajectories
Background Time-resolved three-dimensional phase contrast CMR (4D flow) is a powerful tool for hemodynamic assessment in the cardiovascular system. However, long scan times have hindered the application of the method in many cases. By using spiral readout trajectories, improved efficiency provides a means of reducing scan times without decreasing SNR. Furthermore, spiral acquisition offers incr...
